Virtual Election of the Women Mayors Network's Spokeswomen

The brief

Colombia's Network of Women Mayors for Democracy and Peace needed to elect two spokeswomen per region through a virtual process. The vote had to be secret, one vote per mayor, and usable from any device.

What I did

  • Designed a 4-phase process with IRI and the FCM: nominations, candidate profiles, voting and results
  • Built the microsite: rules and FAQ, candidacy form, candidate profiles by region and a personal voting link for each mayor
  • Ran 5 regional ballots with 21 candidates, plus a vote to choose 3 agenda priorities
  • Published live results charts by region; the electoral commission certified them in an official vote count
  • Produced the brand manual, social pieces and the email campaign that drove turnout

Result

133 women mayors were eligible and 67 voted. The network elected its spokeswomen and its agenda topics online, in a 24-hour vote on 29–30 September 2020.
